Picture the scene: it was my first day at work at the cafe. Not only was I new & not too sure what I was supposed to be doing, but the accents were completely [...] We took a stroll through our landlord Gillian’s garden a day or two ago and this guy is by far my very favorite… It’s like a cross of the plant in Little Shop of Horrors & a prehistoric plant. Love it! Any minute now it looks like it’s going to wake up and bite Kyle, [...] My first real job was at the House of Coffee, this great coffee shop in Red Bank. I loved working there. It was fantastic money for a 16 year old and eventually some of my friends got jobs there, making it more of a fun time vs. going to work. After working there for a year & [...] When I lived in Hoboken, one of the things I least looked forward to was doing laundry. There wasn’t a washer/dryer in our building, so the options were either drop it off across the street to the dry cleaner for wash & fold (ah the best luxury – but SO out of my price range) or [...] After a great week in LA with Noel – highlights include seeing a taping of the Price is Right & Chelsea Lately, drinking more in a week than I have in about a year, saw a turtle race, took a 30 mile bike ride down Venice Beach, and visited some beautiful beaches - it was off to New Zealand we went! The [...] Donna Hayis amazing. She is the less intimidating Aussie version of Martha Stewart. Throughout our week in LA to save $$, we made dinner each night. Turns out Donna Hay is Daniel’s all time favorite, so we made a couple of her dishes. Everyone of them was delicous, yet simple. Literally, they contained like three ingredients each. Perfection. Here’s [...] Here we are! Safe & sound in LA! For the next couple days, Kyle & I will be staying with my friend Noel & his boyfriend Daniel. I can’t even begin to express how welcoming they have been, making us feel right at home. Noel is probably one of my favorite people EVER, though I rarely get to see him. [...] This was the week! At last off Kyle and I went to begin our adventure. Monday morning Kyle’s dad generously took us to JFK Airport. It’s funny. Growing up, my Granny & Grandpa lived to close to it and literally every few minutes a plane would zoom by. Granny would always mention it and something along the [...] I have to show you what Kyle & I made for ourselves during the trip in Vermont. Sure, of course we went out for some good meals. But nothing compares to a nice dinner at home. On the way up to Vermont, tired and hungry from Labor Day weekend, all we wanted was a warm nurturing meal. [...] What does one do when they are un-employed? Technically, I suppose most will throw themselves into the process of finding a new job. Oh no no not here! Since my last day of work last Wednesday, I have had a fantastically leisurely time ever since. Thursday and Friday were spent with my mama – we organized [...] |
